BACK-TO-SCHOOL: AUGUST ANGELS

We are excited to announce a new approach to one of our oldest programs!

Koinonia is aiming to reach even more households in the community who may not be aware of available resources or have limited access to assistance. There are hundreds of at-risk kids who need our help at back-to-school time - kids who won't have the necessary supplies for their classroom; kids who will be carrying homework in a plastic bag. YOU CAN HELP!

We anticipate a large volume of requests for back-to-school help!

To aid in our effort of reaching more families in need, we will be partnering with another worthy organization called "Kids R First", a volunteer-run nonprofit agency founded by a retired Fairfax County Public School teacher. Together, our agencies will provide the best quality school supplies to needy students in our area using the most economical means.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL: SUCCESS!

We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support we received from the community for our back-to-school program, August Angels!

We set out to reach 300 kids and WE DID IT.

Suffice it to say, we were all amazed at the response this year! We were able to help every parent who came to Koinonia looking for help for their child, PLUS we provided backpacks to Edison High School, Rose Hill Elementary School, Mt Vernon/Lee Day School, Key Middle School, and Twain Middle School so Counselors may dispurse to other families in need.

E&M Collision, a U-Haul Neighborhood Dealer, for donating a 17 foot truck which we used for storage
Chief Fleming at the Franconia Fire Department for allowing us to the use the station hall
Mike Lerch at Office Depot for partnering with area nonprofits
Susan Ungerer at Kids R First for introducing us to a new, innovative way to partner with the community

Two More Days Till School

I'm finally going to school this year, and now the big day's almost here.
I'll learn to write and count and read-- Only two more days till school.

I got new pants and shirts and socks, a brand-new red and blue lunch box;
I'll paint and sing and dance and play-- Only one more day fill school.

My hair is washed, my sneakers squeak, I'm so excited, I can hardly speak!
New things to do, new friends to meet-- Hooray! It's the first day of school!
