Scouting for Food is an annual food collection orchestrated by Scouts from National Capital Area Council. Local Scouts distribute plastic bags to homes across the region and return to pick up the bags, now filled with food, one week later. Collected food is distributed to needy families throughout the communities of the Council.
Food collected in the Kingstowne area will go to Koinonia! So if you live in that area, you should receive a bag to be filled on November 4th. Just fill that bag with non-perishable food items, and the Boy Scouts will be back to pick it up on November 11th. Easy right?
Once the food is collected, it will be brought back to the fellowship hall at St Lawrence Catholic Church where it needs to be checked and sorted. This is a HUGE task, as normally we receive well over 10,000 lbs of food! So we will need LOTS of volunteers to help. If you can help, anytime from 9:30am to about 2pm on Saturday, November 11th, click on the link below. It will take you to a sign up where you can let us know where and when you can help!

Need to buy some books for your family, school or favorite non-profit? Save your shopping until November 5th and help us raise funds for Koinonia!
It’s easy! Buy your books at our Barnes & Noble Bookfair – present your voucher (print some out by clicking on the "Bookfair voucher" button) or mention the Koinonia fundraiser - and a percentage of the sale will be donated to Koinonia. Some of the proceeds will be going towards purchasing books for our Christmas Wishes program, so if you would like to help with that, just buy a children’s book as a donation (we are especially in need of middle & high school age books), and leave it in the box at the doors as you are going out.
Can't attend our bookfair at Barnes & Noble? Visit bn.com/bookfairs to support us online from 11/5/17 to 11/10/17 by entering Bookfair ID 12230165 at checkout.
